In a world of disposable cameras, and “one day wonders”, it makes a person take notice when they hear of something lasting 130 plus years. Think of your father, then your grandfather, now lean back into the time of your great granddad; a time when the American West was still mostly frontier; that’s when the Stetson hat was born. The Stetson, today known as “that hat Alan Jackson and Garth Brooks wears”, began life with a hundred dollar bank roll, ten dollars of beaver fur and a desire to make a hat that would keep a body’s head warm, eyes shaded, and wouldn’t fall apart at the first hint of rain. The hat maker was John B. Stetson and I doubt he knew his name and product would achieve legendary status, becoming known as the "Hat of the West" or "Boss of the Plains" allowing many a traveler to water his horse or shade his eyes as he gazed into the vast and lonely prairie. FACT: By 1886 Stetson's hat company was the largest in the world, and had mechanized the hat-making industry. Today it doesn’t matter if you’re driving cattle in Montana, or doing the two-step in Nashville, the Stetson hat is the mark of a man who knows what he wants, and does it with style. Over the years the company name has changed from the John B. Stetson Hat Company, to Hatco, Inc., but the attention to detail and craftsmanship have remained steadfast and true. John B. Stetson may have lived generations in the past, but he possessed the spirit that made America strong and continues today; entrepreneurship. The desire to turn your dreams into reality, no matter the problems or obstacles involved; the “Boss of the Plains” or Stetson hat has endured over one hundred and thirty years and continues to be THE HAT, worn today by countless people around the world from an everyday worker, to a wall street broker, and even by those simply wanting to shade their eyes and gaze at the long lost prairie.
